50 Shades of Pink :: Pink Faux Fur Coat + Lace Top

Tuesday, January 31, 2017 Simone - Your Style Architect 0 Comments

Hi everyone,

Whilst the general public was decked out in bright red or yellows around Hong Kong, I wanted to be a little different and with a slightly cooler New Year period, I decided to go for Pink this time around.

When I say " Pink" I truly mean head to toe Pink. The first for me and perhaps it could be a fashion Faux Pas but hey if you can't be daring during the Chinese New Year, when can one be where loud and garish is the motto for this period.

Seriously, when I was heading out of the house my 10 yr old son said to me "Mom, are you sure you wanna wear that out? I seriously think you look ridiculous!" And he went on to say " I think you should lose that coat and lose those earrings!". And he meant it!! ( sigh.....when your son starts to feel embarrass by you, it's a sign he is growing up).

To be honest, I was feeling weird in an all pink outfit but it was one of those days when I wanted to play around and hey it was Chinese New Year, so people should appreciate my effort of keeping the outfit to the preferred red / pink colour palettes.

Love how the contrast of textures play in this outfit, from lace to faux fur and tassel chandelier earrings. The pink jeans was to ground the whole look together and of course, if I had paired it with pink boots I might as well be sent to the fashion " Sin Bin" so kept it subtle with the bag and the boots to my favourite colour to match with pink - Grey!

Happy New Year once again and hope you enjoyed this look!

Gong Hei Fatt Choy :: Embroidered Cheongsam + Pink Silk Jacket

Saturday, January 28, 2017 Simone - Your Style Architect 2 Comments

Happy Chinese New Year everyone! This being the Year of the Rooster, here's a twist to our quintessential Chinese national dress known as cheongsams or qipao as they are commonly referred to, that the Chinese often wear during this festive period.

Modern designers and the new generation are moving out of the taboo on " no black or mourning colours" for our festive outfits. Hence this lovely peony embroidered qipao was pulled out from the back of my closet and to calm the waters with older folks, trending it with a very bright reversible pink and lime green chinese style silk jacket.

Trending this qipao brought back sweet memories of the time when my good friend Joey and I, setup Foster Bay back in 2012. We totally enjoyed shopping for outfits to sell on our online store and this was one of our New Year favourites back then. I obviously kept one for myself as I love how this qipao looked on me and that it incorporated the traditional chinese dress style with a modern twist on the embroidery and the monochromatic colour palette.

Obviously I wanted to play " safe" where traditional superstitions are concerned e.g no blacks or mourning colours, so this lovely reversible pink and green silk jacket was just the answer to bring bright cheer to the outfit and brighten up a New Year's Day!

With much visiting and running around to friends' homes for the New Year, a perfect time to trend my new Marni shoes with a low heel to stay comfortable but with just enough bling for such an occasion.

Through the years, I have learnt which outfit styles suit me better. Halter necks seem to be a very slimming and sexy cut for me. So this dress hit the ball right out of the park to create that slimming silhouette.

Accessories are so important to make or break and outfit. I matched this look with a matching fuschia pink Celine bag and my lovely tassel Chanel earrings.

And here's a look of the jacket in reverse - lime green! Which do you prefer - pink or green?

Here's wishing all of you a Happy and Prosperous New Year !

Prosperity Calling :: Metallic Skirt + Denim Jacket

Hi everyone,

As we countdown to the most auspicious time on the Chinese calendar - Chinese New Year, you will see all things red and gold streaming from the shops from decorations, to flowers to outfits. Both being lucky colours to bring in good fortune for the New Year!

Heading into Chinatown or if you are based in Asia ( Singapore / Hong Kong/ Malaysia) you will see lined along the streets and outside most homes and businesses, tons of decorations with fishes ( as the word for fish -"yu" sounds similar to that of the meaning of abundance), chinese characters of luck and spring, rooster and chickens ( this year in particular as 2017 is the Year of the Rooster) and gold ingots. Wearing the same pink shade of lipstick, my little fishy and I was sharing a loving kiss to ring in the New Year.

Back to my outfit - I chose to trend this combination this last weekend before Chinese New Year, simply because with a drastic temperature difference between day and night, my legs were cold ( hence the jeans) however to glam it up I decided to layer it with my favourite metallic skirt which I felt was pretty appropriate for such an occasion (pre- Chinese New Year) just to set the festive mood.

Since mix and matching was the theme of the day, I kept the top simple with a plain tee underneath and a denim jacket to rock the outfit up a notch. Adding a touch of pink ( as red would have been too loud for this outfit), I styled this outfit with my lovely pink suede Gucci bag and finished the look off with my favourite gold glitter slingbacks.

So, Chinese New Year colours complete with pink ( as a substitute for red), gold glitter ( signifying money and wealth) and of course my metallic skirt ( with gold, silver and blue - in my opinion all rich and prosperous in significance).

Brought my little fishy friend along to join in the merriment of this photo shoot.

So, here's wishing all of you a Happy and Prosperous Year of the Rooster! Do stay tune for more Chinese New Year outfit posts coming your way very soon.

Check It Out :: Plaid & Checkered Shawl and Cap

Sunday, January 15, 2017 Simone - Your Style Architect 4 Comments

Happy Sunday everyone,

An easy casual look for Winter. I do not own many plaids and checks items in my wardrobe, however this scarf was a beautiful gift that could lift the colours of any outfit. It just reminds me so much of the kilts that the Scottish wear and such a cute pattern to mix and match with.

To funk up the whole look, I paired it with this plaid cap for that slight edgy touch.

Check or Plaid scarves are the hottest style of scarves to get for this Winter. I particularly love the fact that this scarf was layered in its style - something slightly different. Like different check scarves all weaved and sewn together to create one exciting piece.

I hope you enjoyed this quick outfit post. See you soon and thanks for visiting.

Ring My Bell :: Bell Sleeve Top + Silver Plimsoll

Sunday, January 08, 2017 Simone - Your Style Architect 6 Comments

Hi everyone,

How was your first week into 2017? Mine was a relatively busy one with a bad toothache hitting me this weekend! I hope this does not mean more dental visits this year???? ( Yikes....)

Amazing how it's snowing heavily in the USA whilst here in Hong Kong, we are experiencing one of our hottest winter. Temperatures ranging from 15 - 18 degrees in the morning and spiking 28 - 29 degrees in the afternoon. It's nice and refreshing though it also means the delay in pulling out and trending thicker coats, jumpers and sweaters for Winter.

With a nice crisp breeze blowing throughout the day summer clothing would suffice for the day and just make sure one carries a lighter cardigan, shawl to throwover for the evenings. I love this beautiful ZARA top with it's statement bell / trumpet sleeve. Somehow this trend is seriously growing on me.

Keeping the look casual this time, pairing it with cutout denim jeans was my ideal choice. Bringing the look together is a pair of silver plimsolls - perfect for strolling through the Sunday market in Stanley.

I hope you enjoyed this first casual look for 2017 and please let me know what you would like to see more on my blog for 2017 so I can bring those inspirations to you!!

Have a great weekend !
